Parishes & Nursing
Imagine your church being a place where people receive not only spiritual encouragement but also trusted health care advice and compassionate support. That’s the vision of parish nursing—a registered nurse working with your church to offer whole-person care: physical, emotional, and spiritual.
Bringing Hope and WHolistic Care to Your Community
At Parish Nursing Ministries UK (PNMUK), we equip churches to set up safe, sustainable parish nursing services tailored to local needs. Whether you’re just curious or ready to begin, we’ll walk with you every step of the way.

Explore ONline
This free, one-hour session offers a clear and inspiring introduction to what parish nursing is, how it works in a local church context, and the difference it can make in your community.
It’s designed to help church leaders and teams reflect on local needs and explore whether this model of whole-person care could be a good fit.
With real examples, space for questions, and no pressure to commit, Explore Online is a great way to begin discerning if parish nursing could be part of your church’s mission.
Planning your Nursing Ministry
Once your church or organisation is ready to take the next step, you’ll begin working in partnership with PNMUK to plan your parish nursing minstry.
This stage involves close collaboration with a Regional Nurse Coordinator who will guide you through every aspect of preparation—from understanding governance and safeguarding requirements to designing a role that suits your community.
We’ll provide high-quality planning resources, support your recruitment process, and offer promotional visibility through our networks.
At this point, your church formally engages the services of PNMUK, entering into a partnership that ensures the service you launch is safe, well-led, and ready to make a meaningful impact.
Recruiting a Nurse
With your ministry plan in place, the next stage is to find the right nurse for your community. PNMUK will be by your side throughout the recruitment process, providing expert advice on job descriptions, advertising through our national network, and offering guidance on best practice in interviews. You can also invite your Regional Nurse Coordinator to take part in your interview panel, ensuring you benefit from specialist insight. Once your chosen nurse is appointed, they will complete the accredited Preparation for Practice Course before beginning in post, ensuring they are fully equipped for the unique role of parish nursing. This stage marks the deepening of your partnership with PNMUK as we help you build a strong, confident foundation for your new ministry.
Launch your Parish Nursing Ministry
With your nurse trained and your plans in place, you’re ready to begin offering parish nursing in your church and community.
Your Regional Nurse Coordinator will continue to walk alongside your church and nurse, providing supervision, advice, and encouragement as the service takes shape. You’ll have access to a growing network of peer support, resources, and continuing education to help your parish nursing ministry flourish.
In the first few months, your mininstry will work toward accreditation, affirming your commitment to delivering safe, sustainable care rooted in Christian principles.
