Interested In Parish Nursing?

If you might be interested in learning more about becoming a parish nurse we would love to hear from you…

You must be a currently registered nurse or health professional. If you are between jobs, looking after family,  or about to retire then you may be able to stay on the register in order to do parish nursing, since both the hours that you do as a parish nurse, and the training we provide, may be counted as practice hours and evidence of continuing education for revalidation. If your registration has lapsed you will need to do a return to practice course, which may be accessed through your regional centre for nursing education. (If you are not registered, you cannot practice as or call yourself a parish nurse, but you may work under supervision as a Health care assistant to a parish nurse.)

The first thing you need to do is email us for an enquiry pack.  Then pray about it. If it seems that you should explore it further, talk with your church leader, priest, or minister. And you are most welcome to attend our Symposium where you will meet lots of parish nurses. (See the events page for details of the next one in February 2018). We now have a step by step process to help your church think about starting a parish nursing service, and one of our team will be happy to come and meet with a group of your church leadership. In our experience, it is best for this to happen before you do the course, but it is also possible to do the course and link up with a church afterwards.  However, you cannot be a Parish nurse unless you are working with a church or Christian organisation.

We have two residential training course available in Birmingham (see Events page for details) and usually one in Scotland in the summer.
